Those tasks or jobs which were being done in past time continuously
but there must not have any time included are past continuous tense.
Structure of sentence
Positive Sentence:
• Subject + auxiliary verb + main verb-ing + object
• Subject + was/were + (base verb + ing) + object
If the subject is “I” then “was” is used after subject in sentence.
If the subject is “He, She, It, singular or proper
name” then “was” is used after subject in sentence.
If subject is “You, They or plural” then “were” is used after subject in sentence.
The participle “ing” is added to the base form of verb i.e. going (go) writing (write)
Examples:
I was playing cricket.
He was driving a car
They were reading their lessons.
Negative Sentence
• Subject + auxiliary verb + not + main verb-ing + object
• Subject + was/were + not + main verb-ing + object
Examples:
I was not playing cricket.
He was not driving a car
They were not reading their lessons.
Interrogative Sentences
• Auxiliary verb + Subject + main verb-ing + object
• was/were + Subject + (base verb + ing) + object
Examples:
Was he playing cricket?
Was I driving a car?
Were they reading their lessons?
